Ellerslie Racecourse

Ascot Parade is conveniently located adjacent to the Ellerslie Racescourse gardens, which are open for the enjoyment of everyone.  The gardens make a great place to enjoy a coffee, lunch, a short stroll, jog or to take a break from the office.

Ellerslie is also home to the Auckland Racing Club, New Zealand's premier racing Club. Ellerslie hosts 26 race meetings a year and the course has a world renowned reputation for the beauty of its lawns, gardens and trees as well as its famous steeplechase track. First class, award winning facilities in the modern Ellerslie Stand provide the ultimate in raceday amenities, which also serve as Ellerslie Event Centre on non-racedays.

 Ellerslie History

The Auckland Racing Club came into existence on January 9, 1874, when members of two existing clubs amalgamated.

The first two days, racing under the auspices of the ARC were held on May 25 and 26 1874 at Ellerslie land which had been used infrequently for racing up to that time. May 25 was observed as a public holiday to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday.

From these modest beginnings developed one of the finest racecourses in the world - a serious rival for the best that Great Britain, Ireland, France, America, South Africa and Australia could produce.
